The Libya’s militant group identified
as Ansar al—Sharia said that it seized a complete control of Benghazi,
declaring the invaded city as “Islamic emirate,” said by the
militant group representative. Official representative of the militant group told
local radio channel that Benghazi now under its control.
According to the spokesman al—Zahawi
“Benghazi
has now become an Islamic emirate.”
Khalifa Haftar retired, renegade and
a former army general who have earlier this year launched self-declared
campaign to clear city of Islamist militants, strongly denied group’s claims.
“The Libyan army is now in control
of the Benghazi and it only withdrew certain positions for its tactical reasons,”
said by Haftar.“ The militant’s claim that Benghazi is now under the control of
militias is only a lie,” he said.
The militant spokesman’s
declaration comes a month after the jihadist militant group Islamic State of
Iraq and Syria announced a “Islamic caliphate” over its territory.
