Last December, MalacaƱang
spokesman announced that JICA agency from Japan will provide a USD184 million
soft loan to assist Philippine Coast Guards plan to acquire more vessels to increase its maritime security.
Currently the Philippine Coast
Guard has nine Fleet boats utilized for search and rescue functions. Some
Uniformed personnel of PCG man few vessels that belongs to BFAR, commissioned
to minimize illegal pouching to our country and to eliminate illegal fishing
towards our waters.
The additional multi-role patrol
boats will be used by some of the new recruited PCG uniformed personnel’s to uphold
safety at the deep and to protect our nautical environment.
Thru the modernization program by
the Philippine government, PCG budget of Php2 billion was then doubled, now it
is more than Php4.3 billion pesos.
As the budget increased more than
a hundred percent for the past 4 years, this would likely increase the
operational capabilities of the PCG. It is expected that this budget will increase
in the succeeding years as the government is supporting them.
