VP Binay to attend Senate investigation

The Philippine vice president will have his day in Senate. A Senate investigation session will be reserved for Vice President Binay to respond all the charges over the allegedly Makati building overpricing.

Senate blue ribbon subcommittee will issue the formal invitation to VP Binay after the 2 hearings to be held this week, including the ocular inspection of controversial Php2.28 billion building.

The committee is allotting day’s session just to hear VP Binay so his statement would not be diluted by others.

“He will have his day in the Senate,” Senator Pimentel said in an interview.

“As far as our chairman is concerned, the VP will be treated fairly, senators will be reminded to treat witness fairly, and respect all the rights appearing before the board,” he added.

Vice President Binay angrily denied accusations that he made lots of money from the building construction and accused the two senators Trillanes and Cayetano who initiated the Senate probe, of staging a “politicized” inquiry.

Pimentel acknowledged that VP Binay could refuse the invitation. If that were to happen, the committee cannot force him to appear, he said.
