Japanese and Philippine Ships Naval Exercise off Palawan

The Japanese and Philippine ships are set to a naval exercise in waters off Palawan. Lieutenant Commander Domingo the Philippine Navy Public Affairs Office Chief, said that the Philippine Navy’s flagship BRP Ramon Alcaraz would conduct passing exercise (Passex) with the Japan Defense Ship Hatakaze, a destroyer ship from Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force.

Both Alcaraz and Hatakaze were participants in the recently concluded Kakadu 2014, an international naval exercise that was hosted by Royal Australian Navy last August 25 to September 12 of this year.

Passex exercise gives us the opportunity not only to practice but the chance to establish professional relationship with our strong allies making us a more capable force working together at sea.

The exercise is composed of sea drills between two navies to ensure synchronization of the communication and the cooperation between the participating navies in combined naval operations.

The naval exercise is not intended to provoke China, “It has nothing to do with the South China Sea dispute, this is mainly for training purposes,” he said. “This is still part of the Kakadu exercises.

“This training purpose is to improve our capacity, our interoperability with the navies protecting our maritime region.”
