The NATO Mil Mi-28 named "Havoc"
a Russian all—weather day and night, military tandem, a two—seat anti—armor
attack Chopper. A dedicated attack Chopper with no secondary transport
capability, better optimized than Mil Mi—24 for the role.
The helicopter carries single gun
in under nose barbette with external loads carried on pylons beneath the stub
wings.
Mi—28 equipped with chin—mounted
30 mm Shipunov 2A42 auto cannon. The cannon has dual—feed, which allows a
cyclic rate fire between 200 RPM to 550. Effective range varies from 1500
meters for ground vehicles to 2,500 meters for air targets. Rounds from HEI (High
Explosive Incendiary) to APDS (Armor-Piercing
Discarding Sabot) can be used. Stated penetration for the 3UBR8 is 25 mm of RHA
at 1,500 meters.
Common Mi—28 armament is the pair
of 8 Ataka missiles along with 2 B—13L rocket pods, each able to carry five S—13
rockets. Other rocket options include two B—8 rocket pods, each able to carry
up to 20 S-8 rockets.
