Opinion — VP Binay Should Never Become Philippine President

First and foremost VP Binay evade country’s term—limits law by having his wife run mayor after his third term in office expires as the maximum allowed by law—came to an end. That stated three—year gap out of office while Jejomar Binay’s wife was mayor allowed him for another three consecutive terms as mayor in Makati.

An opportunity which he seized till he maxed—out once more in the year 2010, during that point his son Jejomar Binay Jr. was now old enough to run as mayor and did so, thus keeping the office “in the family.

To some people who were not accustomed to the Filipino—style politics, what the Binay did is simply contemptible and absolutely intolerable. The term—limits law by the Philippine was signed into law to prevent individual from monopolizing public office as what Binay did and many mayors, governors all over country.

But to the fact that many unscrupulous politicos do it does not make it right. We must point out that what Binay did was technically not against the law, but certainly goes against the spirit of the stated law.

Binay made ridicule in the Philippine Senate when “he allowed his daughter Senator Nancy who was so obviously unqualified to run for senator.”Senator Nancy Binay was a likely winner—given an easily manipulated senatorial electorate and did not mean she deserved to become a senator.

It appears he (VP Binay) cares only about himself and his family.” The fact that Philippines now has unqualified senator does not concern to Binay. What was important was that his daughter Nancy is now senator and in the perfect place to protect the family’s dynastic interests.
