Germany gives a USD382 million discount on Israel over missile boats deal

The Germans reversed earlier decision to hold back discount on the missile boats to Israel over settlement projects, but instead agreed to give Tel Aviv a €300 million discount. This was reported by the Israeli media.

The officials of the Israel and German expected to sign agreement over said issue within weeks. The German’s was withholding a price cut over the Israel’s settlement activities in occupied Palestinian territories.


As of now, it is not immediately clear what have prompted the German officials to change their mind. But Israeli Foreign Ministry official said that the German Chancellor Merkel’s personal commitment to “securing” Israel was key to swinging the deal.


The United Nation and other countries regard Israeli settlements as illegal because territories were captured by the Israel 1976 war and are hence subject to Geneva Conventions, which forbids the construction on the occupied lands.
