The Germans reversed earlier
decision to hold back discount on the missile boats to Israel over settlement
projects, but instead agreed to give Tel Aviv a €300 million discount. This was
reported by the Israeli media.
The officials of the Israel and German
expected to sign agreement over said issue within weeks. The German’s was
withholding a price cut over the Israel’s settlement activities in occupied
Palestinian territories.
As of now, it is not immediately
clear what have prompted the German officials to change their mind. But Israeli
Foreign Ministry official said that the German Chancellor Merkel’s personal
commitment to “securing” Israel was key to swinging the deal.
The United Nation and other countries
regard Israeli settlements as illegal because territories were captured by the Israel
1976 war and are hence subject to Geneva Conventions, which forbids the construction
on the occupied lands. The Germans gives Israel a USD382 million discount over the
deal on missile boats deal
