The India's first indigenously developed
and designed long range cruise missile Nirbhay was successfully tested at 1005
hrs from the ITR (Integrated Test Range). The said entire mission was from
lift-off till final splash down was perfect flight achieving the mission
objectives.
Nirbhay that is powered by solid
rocket motor booster that is developed by Advanced Systems Laboratory took off
majestically from a designed mobile launcher designed for Nirbhay. As it
achieved the designated altitude and velocity
the booster motor separated, and the turbofan of the engine
automatically switched on taking over the further propulsion and wings opened
up by commands generated by onboard computer stabilizing the flight. That is guided
by highly advanced inertial navigation system indigenously developed by
Research Centre Imarat (RCI) the Nirbhay continued it's flight that lasted a
little over 1hr and 10 minutes.
"The missile maintained an accuracy better than 10 meters throughout it's path and covered a distance of more than 1000 km," said by Dr Chander speaking after the completion of the mission. "The successful indigenous development of Nirbhay cruise missile will fill a vital gap in the war fighting capabilities of our armed forces."
The 1,000 km range cruise missile with capability to strike into enemy territory has been designed and developed by ADE based in Karnataka. The said missile is yet another giant step forward in India's technological capabilities for the design development and leading to production state of the art weapons platforms and equipment for country's armed forces.
