United States conducting airstrikes to get rid of ISIS

By Iraq’s request, Washington began its offensive airstrikes in Tikrit in order to retake the city from ISIS (Islamic State fighters). The recent US bombing marked a huge significant expansion of U.S. military role in Iraq.

US offensive strikes were intended for one mission, which was to destroy ISIS strongholds, saving the innocent lives in Iraq.

James L. Terry, commander of U.S led campaign to defeat ISIS group, said in a written statement. That “US attack will further enable Iraqi forces under Iraqi command to maneuver and soon defeat ISIL in Tikrit vicinity."


A press correspondent assigned in Tikrit reported hearing warplanes late Wednesday, then afterwards followed by multiple hard explosions. Iraqi commander in city told AP that warehouse used by Islamic State to store weapons was bombed by U.S. plane, and afterwards U.S. official confirmed that arms warehouses were among the main targets.
